This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Mac Crutchfield who was born in Tallahasee, Florida on June 24, 1996 and passed away on August 23, 2008 at the age of 12 in Cairo, Georgia.
Mac was an adventurer who loved life. He swam for the ATAC team in Tallahassee and was dedicated to his teammates and coaches. Mac would get up at 4:00 a.m. every morning to drive 1 hour to practice. He would then head back the hour for school in Whigham, Ga. After school he would get back on the road for another trip to Tallahassee for his afternon practice and get home at 8:00 p.m. He also swam every Saturday morning, holidays and summer break.
Even with this demanding schedule Mac maintained an A average and was part of the gifted program. Mac believed in Christ and that family and friends were the most important thing on this earth. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 16 in Tallahasse. Mac knew how important it was to be loyal and truthful, even if that meant telling on himself!
Mac enjoyed hunting, fishing, scalloping and anything to do with the outdoors. The day Mac passed he was enjoying the rain and catching crawfish. He and a few other boys were just standing on the road watching the culvert in our front yard when he slipped and fell, knocking himself out. Neighbors told us later that they had seen Mac standing in the road with no shirt, his arms stretched out, and his face lifted up towards heaven smiling while the rain soaked him. Mac loved the water so much that he would take 3 showers a day after having been in a pool for 4 hours.
Mac was full of humor and loved to laugh. He didn't believe in sleeping in (you might miss something) and loved being at swim meets. He was friends with everyone, whether you were 5 or 70 years old, and he never felt he had to change who he was to be with such a diverse group. As many have said, he was on Old Soul.
Mac is missed by many, but many have also made changes because of him. Through Mac's love and dedication, his family and friends will continue to carry on his name through the Mac Crutchfield Fund.
Olympic Gold Medalist, Ryan Lochte, is the spokeperson for The Mac Crutchfield Fund. There will be several events to raise donations in Mac's memory, which will be posted in the near future. Donations can also be made to Community Foundations of South Ga. 135 N. Broad Street, Suite 201 Thomasville, Ga 31799 or call (229) 228-5088 . To apply for scholarship funds go to www.swimatac.com
